Thesaurus Thursday and...okay, there are no suitable synonyms for the word CONTEST, so don't ignore this post, yes it's about contest!

(Is there a longest post-title ever award?  I just won it.)
Lazily expanding my vocabulary one commentary's synonym at a time.

Contest.  *Officially closed at 9:00 PM EST 2-13-2010*

challenge, concours*, discussion, game, match, meet, meeting, proving, rencounter, sport, testing, tournament, trial, trying

*If I had to choose a favorite, It'd be concours, which is French.  Follow the link and hear the beautiful pronunciation.

Glitter.
Anita: see?  This is closer, but I like the plum better.

So...yes, I am having a contest.  I have 75 followers!  I know, it's supposed to be fifty or one hundred or ten thousand or whatever, but I think you know I'm different by now.  Another thing that's different, the prize.  Normal people give away books or book related gift certificates.  I love getting that stuff, but where I am not wealthy in $$$, I make up for with creativity.

Let me tell you a little bit about inspiration:
I have an odd habit of playing around of Adobe Illustrator.  I create covers of my WiP's.  I know, it's weird, but what do you do?  Eat chocolate, exercise, bake, scream?  I make covers or cover art.  I thoroughly enjoy it and so does my writing schedule.

So...that is the prize I am giving away (click on the images for close-ups).

It's all hypothetical, of course, but it truly helps me stay focused and allows me to dream.  We need to dream every once in a while, ya know?  Here's a little, tiny piece of your dream AKA a push and shove.

So the contest:
1. You must be a follower of my blog.  A prerequisite of any self-righteous totalitarian.
2. You must comment on THIS post.  Obviously, comment on all the other posts, but your comment on this post acts as your entry.
3. There are no points (I cannot count past nine), a follow-up comment will get you love from me but no extra entries.
4. After I choose the winners, I will email you to let you know you are one of them, then I need you to send me a premise or synopsis.  There will be three winners.  The cover I create will be in the same style as the ones I have made for myself (see above).  I am creative, but not talented, so there will be no hand-drawn art or painting or pastels or, yeah, nope.
5. My niece will be drawing the names out of a hat on Saturday.
6. Do not be afraid to ask questions.  This being my first contest, I find myself out on a limb and a bit naive.  I hope you guys like this!

Oh, tomorrow I am a guest on Heather Kelly's blog, Edited to Within an Inch of my Life.  Go become a follower of her blog now, if you aren't already.

To those that watched Heather and I hash out blog awardage last week, MY ONE-UP IS TOMORROW!!!!!  Seriously, it's good.  And odd.  Concerned?  Look at the title of this blog.  See?  Never have I ever led you down a bad path before.

I totally just realized that I love the word carnage.

10:00 Edit:
They have released the title and cover of the third Hunger Games book!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Um, yeah.  So join me in droolfest!
Here's a tidbit from David Levithan:

I am not, under any circumstances, allowed to divulge the contents of the third Hunger Games book. Nada. Nothing. Not a peep. I can, however, share with you five things that will not be appearing in the new book:
  • Panem is not shaken up when District 9 is nominated for a best picture Oscar.
  • At no point does President Snow utter the line, “This is Snowmageddon, baby.”
  • Despite internet rumors to the contrary, it is not revealed that Cinna has been secretly designing outfits for a Capitol operative known as “Lady GaGa.”
  • All rumors of a crossover appearance by Geronimo Stilton are false.
  • In a tough editorial call, we decided not to have Katniss win the Hunger Games…only to be interrupted by Kanye West.

  1. Any way for me to get in good with your niece before Saturday? Does she like chocolates? Brownies? Books?

I love this contest! So cool. And, my favorite cover of yours? It's a tie between the Life and Love on an Orange Peel, and Weston Gets his Wise. Although, they are all GREAT!

    Pick me, pick me!

  2. Tomorrow keeps getting better and better. Both you and Heather all in one day! And as far as covers, they are all beautiful, but I might be with Heather on favorites. I am impressed by the sheer number of them!

I would LOVE having a cover of my own.

  3. I'm sorry you can't count past nine. That must be awful. So how many fingers do you THINK you have? (Please say 11!)

Sounds like a fun contest! Good think I'm already an awesome follower. Totally got lost in your side bar of favorite books by the way. You have pretty good taste...for a boy...

  4. I don't understand the contest or the prizes, if there is any, but I know I am eligible.

  5. HK - Weston was by far the most time consuming. Making those glasses took an hour. I'm glad you like them.

T - The sheer number of covers??? Oh, honey, there are way more where those came from.

Mb - Thanks...I guess. I may have to make a book cover for you based on your blog.

Ocean Girl - Tell me what you don't understand. Two glasses of wine does not help with semantics for this guy! <<< see.

  6. This is a very cool contest! ME! ME! Pick me! Oh, sweet, beautiful niece of Jonathan!
I saw that you are using The Snowflake Method with The Lemonade Stand. I just read about that on another blog. Can you use it without buying the program?
Cool covers! I like the Love one the best being so close to VDay and all!

  7. Kelly - I am glad to know people want this prize...
Go here to learn about the Snowflake Method. This part is free and seriously helpful: http://www.advancedfictionwriting.com/art/snowflake.php

  8. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm a bit nervous about the one-upping that is occuring tomorrow. And, thanks for ordering everyone to become a follower of my blog. Nothing like a bit of strong-arming to get things rolling!

    I'm happy you're my muscle.

  9. Fun! I better win or I'll fedex you a snow crab - bwahahaha

  10. Hey now, praying on my weaknesses is totally low. Do I need to add more rules?

  11. Yeah, I saw that cover yesterday. It's gorgeous!!!

And yay for your followers -- and great contest.

  12. I just wanted to comment on how awesome David Levithan is for saying that. Reminds me of Taylor Swift hosting SNL.
ALthough everything reminds me of that. Maybe because I'm just a littlelotta bit in love with her.
Take that, Kanye! No, seriously. I watched the VMAs and wouldn't shut up about it.
    It was a fun night.

  13. Elana - I think the cover is so refreshing from the black and orange of the first two books. Which I know is deliberate, I cannot wait to find out what it means!

Liam - Team Kanye, okay just kidding. I am not very familiar with anything related to TS, if I heard a song of hers, I'd have no idea that it was her. I'm pretty stuck in my ways regarding music and I never branch out.

  14. Yay contest!

I saw the cover literally two minutes ago on Amazon when I pre-ordered it. *fist pump* Can't wait for my Peeta!

  15. This must be contest month. I am a follower :) This is a cool contest by the way. I think Weston Gets his Wise is my favorite.
BTW-Critique I am starting would be for YA--so if you are interested let me know.
    Thanks!

  16. Contest! I'm like the fish-tanked fish in Nemo that goes nuts over bubbles. Contest! (Though I do the same thing whenever a train goes by.) Anyway, contest - yay!

Your covers are great & book lists & reviews fantastic. So many books, what's your fav YA & middle grade? (Maybe you've already said & I apologize if I've missed it.)

BTW, tell your niece that I think she's the perfect, most talented name-out-of-hat selecter.

  17. Ri - Too bad he's gonna die.

Christine - I will let you know, for sure. Maybe I can join the group and help critique as I finish my work and we'll all be established by then.

Robert - I will certainly pass the message along to my niece.

My favorite YA, per my list on Goodreads in CATCHING FIRE, but THE VAST FIELDS OF ORDINARY, by Nick Burd, totally worked its way straight into my soul this winter.

Regarding MG, THE GIVER will always be in my head. I love THE PHANTOM TOLLBOOTH, THE MYSTERIOUS BENEDICT SOCIETY, and WILD THINGS. I really think you should take a look at the Goodreads link to the left of my page. Give me your thoughts.

  18. I'm not entering in the contest, but I had to say that I'm in love with your owl cover.

  19. I looove the glitter...I'll show it to my kiddos, because they are nuts about the stuff.

Your covers are fun! What a great procrastination tool. But I keep winning random drawings, so I'm feeling guilty...maybe I shouldn't be included??? I have magnetic energy, so people just pull my name like crazy. Except not so much with agents. Alas.

  20. Congrats on hitting 75 followers! And love your covers. Very creative idea for a contest. (Last one I did, I gave away a critique--gotta love giving away things that only cost you time.)

No need to enter me in the contest, since I just did my cover on my blog post today, but I look forward to seeing what you come up with for the winners. :)

  21. I'm easily confused and also in a different time zone (where it's already Sunday) but if it ain't too late, then consider this my entry :)
