T is for Theme

I am sorry if you thought this was going to be some awesome post about themes in writing, but it's not. I'll do that another day.

Anywho, I am asking for your input. I have been changing my banner every 7-10 days because I think it's fun to do. Plus, I had made up several banners in one creative spree, but have none on-deck. I am a total novice when it comes to graphic design, but I like a challenge. And so I ask you: gimme some themes and ideas for banners.

Here are the retired banners:

  1. First off, I don't buy the "total novice" bit. This is a great-looking blog, that is both eye-catching and not visually-assaulting (which is, alas, the rookie mistake made by the vast majority of bloggers).

I like the fish tank. I like the Chucks.

  2. That's a fun idea. I know I've considered altering my header for holidays, but even that's too much effort for a procrastinator like me.

I think you could get a series of graphics with various animals: tigers, zebra, giraffe, tropical birds, kangaroo, penguins, etc. Or, since you've already done aliens, move onto other paranormal beings: vampires, zombies, giant squids, Justin Bieber...

  3. You = rad, J. Your banners are fantastic and I blog-stalk you often, just so I can see them change.

As for themes... totes do garden gnomes!! Or better - SOCK MONKEYS! Conquer the fear of the sock monkey, Jonny. You know you want to.

  4. My favourite is the one of the shoe, is running an interest? I'd do headings to fit my present mood. Enjoy yourself, you'll know when it's right for you. :0)

  6. Oh thank goodness! Ever since this challenge started, every so often I would come to your blog and it would be different, but I never noticed anyone saying anything in the comments section so I thought it was just me all this time. You are definitely NOT a novice. What programs do you use btw for your designs? The shoe design is my favorite one btw.

  7. They all look good to me Jon. I think I prefer the artist to choose and then I can feel free to interpret it to see how it strikes me.

  8. ah, I'd have to know you better personally to come up with possible themes for your banner, because I believe the design of our blogs should reflect our personalities.
But I like these old ones and I think you should put some light colour behind the text posts too, to make the whole blog less white.

  10. Okay, I like the last one with the sneaker. Maybe b/c it's a bit more bold and your name is easier to see right off the bat.
